The Onion Patch 4-H Club presented CCE Yates County 4-H with $52 from donations earned from the sale from Lydia Sacheli's (age 7) cookbook, "Cooking with Kids, Recipes from A-Z". Lydia was at the 4-H office on Wednesday, October 28 to present the check to Peter Landre, Executive Director of CCE. "On behalf of the 4-H program, this $52 is very much appreciated and is an outstanding example of how 4-H motivates kids in a caring environment to develop skills, create a useful and healthy product, and give back to the community".
According to Lydia's mom, Allison, "4-H provides exceptional learning experiences for kids of all learning styles and achievement levels and if it was not available it would be sorely missed. Where else in life than the county fair are children rewarded and applauded for their learning and study? The 4 components of 4-H Head (for clear thinking-- making good choices), Heart (for greater loyalty-- being a good friend and role model), Hands (for larger service-- compassion and giving), and Health (for better living- making healthy choices) provide character education that is needed in our youth. In our society this is a component that is vital. My children (ages 5, 7 and 8) feel so strongly about this that when they developed a cookbook which was featured in both the Finger Lakes Times and the Penn Yan Chronicle Express recently, they decided to donate $1 from each book to fund 4-H projects. So far they have raised more than $100 and have provided a scholarship for one of our members who could not raise the $10 membership fee or to purchase a robot kit for one of our projects this year. They hope that their ability to give will extend even further in the future." |
