Upcoming Dairy Skills Training Classes
The Wyoming County Dairy Institute and the NWNY team are offering more educational programs in their continuing series of Dairy Skills Training coming up after Memorial Day – Animal Well-Being & Cow Comfort and Herd Health & Herdsmanship. The course information is below, along with a link to the brochure with full details.
Class costs have been kept down and the classroom sessions have been placed in the evenings at two locations (Warsaw and Canandaigua), connected by Cornell Cooperative Extension’s videoconferencing system. Both programs will end with on-farm sessions. They have been designed to be interactive and practical.

Animal Well-Being and Cow Comfort
Tuesday May 31st, 2011 and Thursday June 2nd, 2011
6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The on farm session will be held Tuesday, June 7th from 7:30am – 12:30pm at Coyne Farms in Avon, NY.
Includes: 2 classroom sessions and 1 on-farm visit
Core Competencies: Handling Large Animals, Cow Behavior, Facility Design, Stocking Density, Economics of Cow Comfort
Herd Health and Herdsmanship
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011 and Thursday, June 16th, 2011
6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The on farm session will be held Saturday, June 18th from 10:00am–2:00pm.
Includes: 2 classroom sessions and 1 on-farm visit
Core Competencies: Identifying Sick Cows, Protocols, Metabolic Diseases, Infectious Diseases, Bovine Physical Exam
