By Debra Welch, Agriculture Community Educator, CCE of Wyoming County
The WNY Maple School and Trade Show Conference will be held on Saturday January 15, 2011, at the Letchworth Central High School in Gainesville, NY. This popular event will feature speaker David J. Colligan, Esq., a landowner rights specialist and NYS maple producer, who will make the keynote presentation: “What A Sugarbush Owner Needs to Know About Rights and Responsibilities.”
The annual event is a regional educational conference for maple enthusiasts, and offers information and education for beginners and up to the more experienced maple producers. Attendees will have a choice of educational presentations, a trade exhibit, a hot lunch, and a great chance to casually exchange ideas with other maple producers. Experienced maple producers and hobbyists are all invited to attend. Guest speakers include experts from the maple industry, DEC, the Cornell Maple Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and Wyoming County Tourist Promotion Agency.
A variety of topics will be offered for the workshops this year including: maple production for beginners, marketing maple products, equipment operation and maintenance, new equipment, cooking with maple syrup, low impact timber and firewood harvesting, tap sanitation, and more. Attendees will also learn about the Wyoming County Maple Producers’ Association and the Western New York Maple Producers’ Association.
Admission for the day’s program has been kept at $10. The price includes attending workshops, equipment exhibit, and lunch. Pre-registration is not required, but is appreciated in order to help us better plan program seating space and lunch. Pre-registration by Friday, January 7th is highly encouraged.
Participants will have several workshops to choose from for morning and afternoon sessions.
