Local Buyers Support 2009 Wyoming County 4-H Meat Animal Auctions

This year 4-H members sold 107 hogs, 30 lambs, 9 dairy steers and 8 beef steers during the 41st Annual Wyoming County 4-H Meat Animal Auctions in Pike, NY. The two auctions combined grossed more than $135,000 total in animal sales.

The hog auction was held on Tuesday, August 11th. Robert Price of North Java exhibited the Champion Market Hog. The hog weighing 275 pounds was sold to Royal Flush of Java Center for $3.50 per pound. D.B. Hamilton, Inc. of Castile was the successful bidder on Jared Price's 272 pound Reserve Champion Market Hog at $3.50 per pound.

Dustin Pingrey of Strykersville exhibited the champion dairy steer for this year's 4-H Meat Animal Project.

The lamb and steer auction was held on Wednesday, August 19th during the annual Wyoming County Fair. Meredith Bell of Pavilion exhibited the 110 pound Champion Market Lamb. It was purchased by Five Star Bank of Warsaw for $7.75 per pound. Farmer to Farmer LLC of Castile purchased the 97 pound Reserve Champion Market Lamb owned by Beth Watson of Dansville for $3.50 per pound.

Dustin Pingrey of Strykersville exhibited the Champion Dairy Bred Steer weighing in at 1,261 pounds. Broughton Diversified Farming of Silver Springs was the successful bidder at $3.25 per pound. Evan Reisdorf of Strykersville sold his 1,280 pound Reserve Champion Dairy Bred Steer to NY Drinks, Inc. of Warsaw and Daniel Dairy Farm of Strykersville; each purchasing a half at $3.00 and $2.20 per pound respectively.

The Champion Beef Bred Steer weighed 1,345 pounds and was exhibited by Tommy Velasquez of Warsaw. Broughton Farm of Silver Springs purchased the animal for $2.35 per pound. Ryan Finch of Pavilion exhibited and sold the Reserve Champion Beef Bred Steer to Don Beck, Inc. of Castile for $3.50 per pound.
