These herbs have culinary uses and may also be used as companion plants

Anise Hyssop (Agastche foeniculum)
Perennial, full sun to half-day sun. Lavender flowers attract honeybees.


Anise Hyssop 'Tutti Frutti' (Agastache barbarei x mexicana 'Tutti Fruitti')
Perennial, sun. Hot pink flowers attract honeybees.

Basil (Ocimum basillicum)
Annual, full to half-day sun. Repels asparagus beetles, flies, aphids and mosquitoes. Plant near tomatoes and peppers. Don't grow near rue.


Greek Bush Basil (Ocumum basilicum minimum)
Annual, full to half-day sun. Repels flies and mosquitoes. Don't grow near rue.

Mini Basil (Ocimum basilicum 'Spicy Globe')
Annual, full to half-day sun. Repels flies and mosquitoes. Don't grow near rue.


Purple Basil (Ocimum basilicum 'Dark Opal')
Annual, full to half-day sun. Repels tomato hornworms. Don't grow near rue.


Calendula, Poet's Marigold (Calendula officinalis)
Cool season Annual, sun to part shade. Yellow or orange flower petals are edible and make a good food dye. Plant near tomatoes. Repels tomato hornworms, asparagus beetles, some nematodes.


Catmint (Nepeta 'Pool Bank')
Perennial, full to half-day sun. Repels aphids, cucumber beetles, Colorado potato beetles, cabbage moths, squash bugs, flea beetles. Blue flowers attract honeybees.


Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
Perennial, full sun to part shade. Edible mauve flowers and green leaves taste lightly of onion. Plant near carrots, grapes, roses, tomatoes, apple trees and gooseberries. Repels aphids, Japanese beetles, rabbits, helps against apple scab. Don't grow near beans or peas. Keep away from stables - chives are toxic to horses.


Garlic Chives (Allium tuberosum)
Perennial, full sun to part shade. Edible white flowers and flat, green leaves have a light garlic/onion flavor. Blooms mid to late summer. Repels aphids, Japanese beetles, rabbits, helps against apple scab. Don't grow near beans or peas.


Silver Curly Chives, Corkscrew Chives (Allium senescens glaucum)
Perennial, full sun to part shade. Small pale pink flowers and silver, twisted leaves are highly ornamental. Repels aphids, Japanese beetles, rabbits, helps against apple scab. Don't grow near beans or peas.


Dill (Anethum graveolens)
Cool season Annual, full to half-day sun. Plant near cabbage, onions, lettuce. Repels cabbage loopers, imported cabbageworms, tomato hornworms. Don't grow near carrots or tomatoes.


Fennel, Bronze (Foeniculum vulgare 'Rubrum')
Perennial, full sun to part shade. Attracts Ichneumonid wasps, honeybees, hoveflies and black swallowtail butterflies. Don't grow near beans, peppers, coriander, wormwood.


Horehound (Marrubium vulgare)
Perennial, full sun. Plant near tomatoes. Repels grasshoppers and many other insects (plant to bitter to eat). Used to make cough drops and was one of the original bitter herbs of the Passover Seder.


Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis)
Perennial, full sun. Plant near cabbage and grapes. Repels cabbage loopers & cabbage moth. Don't grow near radishes.


Lavendula (Lovandula x intermedia 'Grosso')
Perennial, full sun. Flowers attract honeybees. Repels flies.

Perennial, full sun. Flowers attract honeybees. Repels flies.

Lovage (Levisticum officinale)
Perennial, full to half-day sun. Plant near beans. Also improves the growth of other plants growing nearby.


Marigold (Tagetes spp.)
Annual, full sun to part shade. Plant near potatoes, tomatoes and roses. Repels aphids, whiteflies, cabbage maggots, corn earworms, Mexican bean beetles, rabbits, some nematodes, plum curculio.


Nasturtium (Tropaeolum minus)
Annual, full sun. Edible flowers and leaves have a peppery flavor. Plant near radishes, cabbage, cucumbers, fruit trees, broccoli. Repels aphids, whiteflies, cabbage loopers, carrot flies, squash bugs, wooly aphids.


Oregano, Golden (Origanum vulgare aureum')
Perennial, full sun. Plant near beans.


Parsley, Curly (petroselinum crispum)
Biennial, full sun to part shade. Plant near carrots, roses, asparagus, tomatoes. Repels carrot flies (if seed is sown together), rose beetles.

Tender perennial to perennial, full sun. Plant near beans, sage, cabbage and carrots. Repels carrot flies, Mexican bean beetles, slugs and snails, cabbage moths, some mosquitoes.


Sage (Salvia officinalis)
Perennial, full to half-day sun. Plant near cabbage, carrots, strawberries, tomatoes, marjoram, rosemary and grapes. Repels cabbage loopers, cabbage maggots, carrot flies. Don't grow near onions or cucumbers.


Sage, Pineapple (Salvia elegans)
Tender perennial, full to half-day sun. Edible leaves and red flowers smell and taste like pineapple. Blooms late summer till frost. Repels cabbage loopers, cabbage maggots, carrot flies.

Scented Pelargoniums (Geraniums)
Plant near roses and cabbage. Repels Japanese beetles, cabbageworms, and leafhoppers.
