Risk Management Agency
- Acreage Reporting - Spring planted acres must be reported both to your FSA county office and your crop insurance agent. It is very important that the acreage information supplied to FSA be identical to what is reported to the crop insurance program. Step one is filing your acreage report at FSA and obtaining a copy of your FSA 578 form. Step two is completing your acreage report with your crop insurance agent and including a copy of the FSA 578 form. Verify that your agent has the correct farm serial number(s) for your operation. Both your FSA county office and your crop insurance agent can assist you in this process. The acreage report should include any added land, any crop acreage by unit that you were prevented from planting, and all farm serial numbers. If you experience delayed or prevented planting, contact your crop insurance agent.
- The most up-to-date information on crop insurance deadlines for final planting and acreage reporting can be accessed at http://www3.rma.usda.gov/apps/docbrowser/.
- Definitions of Key Crop Insurance Dates:
- Sales Closing - Last date to apply for coverage
- Cancellation date - Give notice if you don't want insurance next year
- Production Reporting - Actual production history due
- Final Planting - Contact your agent if unable to plant by this date
- Acreage Reporting - Submit report of acreage planted to your agent
- Payment due - Interest charges will be incurred thereafter
- End of Insurance - Period Last date of coverage for current year's crop
- Report Crop Damage Promptly
If you should experience damage on insured crops, you need to file a report of damage with your insurance agent immediately upon discovery. Ask your agent for a copy for your records of the damage report to the insurance company. Do not destroy the evidence of damage until authorized in writing by a loss adjuster.
