In an effort to learn about nutrition and practice food presentation skills, 4-H members present silent food demonstrations, promoting items from the Empire State. The major ingredient of the recipe feature a product grown or produced in New York State such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, maple or meat. With agriculture being up-most important to the economy of not only Wyoming County, but New York State, the food contest allows an opportunity to promote the use and consumption of agriculture products either grown or produced in New York State! Participants are also encouraged to consider the U.S. Dietary Guidelines when selecting their recipes.
- Agri-Business Careers Conference (SUNY Cobleskill)
Includes mini-tours to farms and agribusiness facilities in the Cobleskill area, lectures, and attending sessions and tours of the college facility. Youth interested in this and other award trips should submit an award trip application. - Natural Resource Project Committee Meeting

- Awards for Volunteer Service
Each year the Wyoming County Youth Board recognizes youth, adults and organizations who have performed outstanding volunteer service to people in our county. The award signifies the commitment of these youth and adult volunteers, and their service to the community. Winner, honorable mentions, and certificate winners will be announced at the awards dinner in April. All individuals and organizations are encouraged to place nominations for these awards. Nomination forms are available from the 4-H office, and from several organizations throughout Wyoming County.

Young Eco-Hero Awards
Do you know any YOUNG ECO-HEROES aged 8 to 16 years? Please let them know about Action For Natures 2006 International Young Eco-Hero awards program. Winners receive a cash prize and recognition for their environmental accomplishments. The award promotes individual action concerning environmental protection and advocacy, environmental health projects and the education of others. Sheet Due March 1st
The Western NY Gladiola Society will provide approximately 24 bulbs per 4-Her. For first year members in the project the bulbs will be free. For second through ninth year project members the cost will be $3.00. You will also be expected to show at least one bloom at the open class gladiola show at the Wyoming County Fair in August.
There will be an educational meeting at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Education Center in Warsaw in April that will show you how to grow the Gladiolas. You will also be able to pick the bulbs up at that meeting. Bulbs should then be planted in May.

4-H Photography Contest - Deadline March 1st.
National 4-H Council needs winning photos from your state and county fairs. The winning photos will be on display at the National 4-H Conference Center and also posted on our web site, www.4-hmall.org.
- Dairy Discovery Workshop at Cornell University
Youth who are 15 to 19 years of age (age of January of the current 4-H year) with an interest in dairy cattle are eligible to attend. Please contact the 4-H office at 786-2251 for more information. (Participation is limited to the first 60 individuals to enroll.) - Maple
Weekend
The Western New York State Maple Producers Association presents the Annual Maple Weekend in March for two days from 10am-4pm each day. About 40 maple producers across Western New York will be hosting open houses for the public to see maple production. This family-oriented event is sure to delight visitors of all ages.
All participants will be boiling sap into maple syrup and many will demonstrate maple sugar making. Of course, visitors can sample and purchase the maple products. In addition some of the sugarhouses will provide of variety of other activities to make your visit to them even more memorable. The event is free to the public.

- Showing Poultry at the Fair? - Poultry May Need Blood
Testing
If youre planning on showing chickens, turkeys, quail, pheasants, or guineas, they may have to be blood tested by a State inspector. You will need to fill out an application to request the testing (available from the 4-H office). The applications should be returned to the 4-H office by March 1st. The inspector will then contact you to make an appointment for testing.
All 4-Hers that have poultry and plan on showing at the fair, should fill out an application for testing, because the pullorum certificates are issued each year. Some flocks will be blood tested every other year; however, if you are showing birds Out-of State they have to be tested every year.
If you have no older birds and you buy chicks from a hatchery that is under a pullorum testing program, the chicks will not have to be tested until next year, but you will need to get a copy of the hatcheries pullorum certificate. - National Nutrition

Project And Auction - SIGN UP
The Warsaw Kiwanis sponsors this project. The 4-Her would join the Wyoming Eggers 4-H club, attend their meetings and order chicks through the club.
In addition, the 4-Her would keep records on the project, invite their sponsor to visit their project, attend a dinner meeting with their sponsor, do a public presentation and show at least one bird at the Wyoming County Fair. If interested, return the tear sheet in the February/March 4-H Newsletter by April 1st.

- Cornell Career Exploration Award Trip
The Career Exploration program is an opportunity for youth between the ages of 13 and 19 to explore career opportunities using the resources of Cornell University. These fun-filled three days are a chance to learn about potential careers, check out college life, and develop leadership skills through one of several special programs. Also planned is a variety of free time activities to let teens from across the state meet in a casual setting. Last year over 500 youth from throughout NY State participated in this program!
Youth interested in this and other award trips should submit an award trip application. - Older 4-H Members Conference
Travel to West Virginia! This trip will find you visiting beautiful, historic Jackson's Mill in Weston (West Virginia's State 4-H Camp). Experience this unique opportunity as an out-of-state delegate to OMC. Aimed at 4-H members 15 years and older, OMC focuses on leadership development and discussion.
**Eligibility requirement: Youth ages 15 and over, who are interested in learning about 4-H traditions in another state.

- Citizenship-Washington Focus Trip to Washington D.C.
Teens ages 15 - 19 can spend a week, July 8-14, 2007, at the nation's capital site-seeing, discovering citizenship and learning how the government works....all at the same time!!
Citizenship Washington Focus is a leadership program conducted by the National 4-H Council. Delegates attending this five-day program will stay at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, Maryland with youth from across the country. Using the nation's capital as a classroom, the conference challenges delegates to identify and address significant issues, develop skills in the public policy process, establish communications with elected officials, and improve their knowledge of the federal government.
In addition to formal conference sessions, 2005 delegates toured major historical sites in and around Washington, D.C. including: Capitol Hill, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington National Cathedral, Vietnam Veterans, Lincoln, Korean, and WWII Memorials, and the U. S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The NY delegation took a field trip to Mount Vernon, attended the Twilight Tattoo performance presented by the US Army Military District of Washington, enjoyed a night-view of Washington, D.C. (White House, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, FDR Memorial), visited the National Zoo, enjoyed an evening at Toby's Dinner Theater, and spent a day at the Smithsonian Museums.
**Eligibility requirement: 4-H members 15-19 years old with an interest in leadership and government.
