4-H Small Engines, Tractor & Certification School
Machinery safety, maintenance and how engines run are just some of the subjects emphasized during these courses.
- Small Engines: Open to 11-12 year olds, or older members that would like to learn about lawn mowers, etc.
- Unit I: Open to 12 year olds, those who have completed Small Engines or 13-19 year old first time members.
- Unit II: Open to 13-19 year olds who have completed Unit I or Certification.
- Unit III: Open to 14-19 year olds who have completed Unit I, II or Certification.
- Certification: Open to all youth 14-15 years old (and 13 year olds that will turn 14 before 4/11) who would like to work on a farm for hire and operate a tractor over 20 horsepower. Course requirements: 12-15 hours reading and self study, attend 5 meetings, attend Farm Safety Day, pass a written test and driving test.
- In May, the 4-H Tractor Driving Contest is held, and all participants in the small engines and tractor safety projects are encouraged to participate.
