Risk Management
When we think of risk in crop production, we primarily think of weather and crop loss.  Risk has many other “faces”.  They include loss in crop quality; bio-security and introduction of disease; business risk; and more.  These articles try to cover several types of risk.  Currently, crop insurance for hay crops is being developed by the United States Department of Agriculture.  Policies may not be perfect, but you should learn about them and if you grow many acres of hay and can not assume the risk of a major loss, then you should determine if crop insurance if for you.
