Fiber Tour

Washington County Fiber Tour
May 3 and 4, 2008 from 10am to 5pm

You will enjoy many unique experiences on each farm so try to visit them all! Try your hand at some old time spinning and weaving. Fiber dyeing in traditional and modern techniques with different mediums will be demonstrated. Talk with the crafters and see how the human hand makes each item unique and a treasure to own. Come out and see the new baby lambs playing in the early spring green grassy fields. Maple sugar houses, crafts, gift shops, and friendly animals are around every corner. There is so much to see and do we can't possible list it all, you will just have to spend the day relaxing and enjoying the day with us!

At the farms, you will be able to see how raw alpaca fleece is transformed into beautiful garments from start to finish. You will also be able to try your hand at traditional fiber arts like spinning, felting and weaving. Have all of your questions about alpacas answered and get some hands on experience with the animals. You can even take an alpaca through the obstacle course and have your picture taken with them! Finish off your trip with a visit to our gift shop featuring a wide selection of fine alpaca garments, stuffed animals, and baby items. Refreshments will be available in the picnic area. Come out to enjoy the spring weather and get your hands on an alpaca!!

Saratoga Fiber Tour
October 11& 12, 2008

Each year on Columbus Day weekend, the annual Saratoga Fiber Tour is held at fiber animal producing farms in Saratoga County. The tour is designed to promote agriculture in Saratoga County while simultaneously providing educational and entertaining experiences for the entire family, the event is one of the highlights of the fall season in the Capital District.

Showcasing some of the most outstanding fiber producing farms in Saratoga County, the Fiber Tour features llamas, alpacas, sheep and angora rabbits. Activities can include lead a llama, an alpaca obstacle course, leaping llamas, grooming, ownership seminars, free literature on fiber producing animals, roving, yarn and fiber related products for sale, hands on experiences with llamas, alpacas, sheep and rabbits, and much more. Visitors may be treated to carding, spinning and felting demos.
