Local Food Writer Awarded Friend of Extension Award

Each year at our annual dinner in November, CCE of Saratoga County presents the "Friend of Extension" Award to a person has been a friend and supporter of Extension and has gone beyond the call of duty in their efforts. This year's Friend of Extension has been a true supporter of Extension and the agriculture community.

Annette Neilson was honored with the prestigious "Friend of Extension" award for her work in promoting healthy nutrition and local farm products. Annette, from Salem in Washington County, was thanked before a crowd of 100 farmers, friends, CCE staff members, and county supervisors for her efforts. Annette is a big supporter of local food and local agriculture and does an amazing job of promoting and reporting the importance of agriculture.

Annette spreads the good word of our agricultural producers and the exceptional food they produce in Saratoga and Washington Counties through her writings for local newspapers and magazines. She has also has been a friend to agriculture by supporting the many endeavors of Extension programs such as helping organize and prepare the meals with locally produced products at the Farm to Chef Networking Day, the Harvest Lunch, and the Al Fresco Dinner; as a board member of the Battenkill Kitchen, Inc.; and in her efforts in promoting our local Farmers' Markets.

The agricultural community and Cornell Cooperative Extension are lucking to have Annette as our friend. Next time you see Annette, be sure to thank her! And of course tell her about the wonderful agricultural things you are doing. Chances are she just might write about it.
