Each year Cornell Cooperative Extension sponsors the Warren
County Fair. On August 2, 2008, the 135th annual Warren County
Youth
Fair will be held; Cornell Cooperative Extension has been the sponsor for the
past 59 years. The purpose of the Warren County Youth Fair is to evaluate 4-H
projects, to provide an opportunity to recognize youths’ achievements;
to encourage skills of teamwork, cooperation, communication and sportsmanship;
and to provide first-time job experience to youth. For families, fair is an
opportunity to enjoy a fun-filled day in a safe environment.
The Warren County Youth Fair also offers youth the opportunity to exhibit projects such as art, woodworking and food items that they have worked on throughout the year. The various judging events, held prior to the opening of Fair, are designed to help youth gain self-confidence and improve communication skills.
The 2007 Fair was filled with games, contests, youth exhibits, stage entertainment, demonstrations and vendors. Some of the fair attractions were: youth demonstrations, 4-H Horse Show, 4-H exhibits from Warren County youth, the youth talent competition and free “old-fashioned” games and contests for youth and adults.
Further, youth gained first-time job experience at the Fair through the Teen Superintendent program, a program designed to assist youth in learning jobs and job responsibilities. At Fair, teens were assigned a variety of positions and duties ranging from cashiers to buildings-and-grounds clean up.
