The 4-H Adirondack Reelers
Club is fishing for new members.
Are you interested in fishing?
Would you like to learn how to tie a fly or how to cast with a rod?
Then you should check out the 4-H Adirondack Reelers Club! The club
focuses on all aspects of fly fishing, from the history of the sport
to identifying and understanding the many different types of equipment
to understanding the importance of and the impact that our watersheds
have on our environment. They even learn “to respect the trout”
as one member put it.
Members of this club describe
their activities as “fun” and that they “learn a
lot of neat things, like how to tie flies” and they get to practice
casting. The club members also felt that they have “very nice
volunteers and a leader that really helps out”. As a club, the
Adirondack Reelers participate in a variety of activities; they went
ice fishing several times this past winter at Lake George and have
been hard at work tying different types of flies.
If you are really “hooked”
on fishing and would like to join this club or want more information,
please contact Martina or John at 668-3291 or 623-3291.

Calling
All Fiber Artists!
Are you interested
in sewing, knitting, macramé, or beadwork? Well, sew are
we! We are looking for interested parents, adults, and possible
project leaders that are crafty. If you are knowledgeable about
free hand sewing, sewing machines, bead working, and/or knitting,
we would like to talk to you about joining in helping us start either
a new special interest group or club that focuses on fiber arts.
We would like to start with a five part sewing program that meets
once a month at the CCE in Warrensburg. This initial program would
start by covering the basics of sewing, using a sewing machine,
and following a simple pattern.
Please
contact the Martina at the CCE if you are interested in this participating
or assisting in this program. We would like to know what days
and times are good for you! |

Up,
Up, and Away!
Take Flight with the Flying Clover Rocketeers
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to
fly an airplane or launch a rocket? How about exploring space
or becoming an astronaut? Are you fascinated by machines that
fly? Would you like to learn about kites, hot air balloons, remote
control airplanes, helicopters, space shuttles, and gliders? If
you answered yes to any of these questions then you should attend
the next 4-H Rocketeers Club meeting.
The 4-H Rocketry Club is a group of youth who gather together
to learn and implement projects related to aerospace, aviation,
kites, hot air balloons, and weather. One of the projects that
the Club has done in the past was planning, building, and launching
their own rocket. The Rocketry Club is also planning a few field
trips which include visiting the Empire State Aerosciences Museum
in Glenville, NY and attending the Adirondack Balloon Festival.
4-H has partnered with the National Association of Rocketry in
order to develop an ongoing exchange that will help benefit youth
when it comes to aerospace topics and model rocketry. Recently,
4-H has introduced the new SET (Science, Engineering, and Technology)
curriculum which focuses on hands-on learning experiences that
give youth an opportunity to explore and excel in these subjects.
If you are interested in learning more about the 4-H Rocketry
Club or would like to attend a meeting, please contact Martina
Yngente or John Bowe at the Cornell University Cooperative Extension
of Warren County at 668-4881.
