Lick Brook carries a smaller volume of water than many of the more well-known creeks in the area, but the falls and gorge and this preserve are actually quite impressive. If you don't mind getting your feet wet, you can hike up the gorge to the base of the falls. One parking area for this preserve is located very close to the junction of Route 13 and Route 34/96, just south of Ithaca. The upper access point is reachable by taking Route 13 (Elmira Rd) south from Ithaca, turning left on Sand Bank Road just past Buttermilk to climb South Hill, then forking right on Town Line Road. Just after this fork, pull off the road and park just before you reach the bridge.
