Reiman Woods

Below is the text of an off-site page describing Reiman Woods, taken from http://ludlow.dns2go.com/cribbage/areas/reiman.html.  It offers some description of the site, but some information is out of date.  Specifically, there appears to have been a loss of public access to the property immediately east of Trumball Corners Road, adjacent to Reiman Woods.  Currently, the only public access to Reiman Woods that I'm aware of is via the Finger Lakes Trail from Porter Hill Rd.  Through traffic on the Finger Lakes Trail is being routed along Porter Hill and Trumball Corners Roads.

Topography and Environs

Reiman Woods is a private conservation area managed by the Cayuga Trails Club . The woods is located on top of hill east of Trumbull Corners Road (country Rt. 133), where the road passes through the gorge just south of Rt. 327. A hemlock forest on the west of the hill leads to the top via FLT. An oak forest at the top merges with a pine plantation forest. The east of the hillop, the trail passes through mixed forest to Porter Hill Road.

Eastward, the FLT continues though mixed forest toward Treman Park.

Westward (other side of Trumbull Corner Road) is the Stevenson Forest Perserve. Another private conservation area managed/owned by the Finger Lake Land Trust . This mature hemlock forest has an open under-story and is quite peaceful. Stevens Forest continues up the side of the gorge until Rumsey Hill Road. Parking at Stevenson Forest makes easy access to either forest preserve, and is usually "busy" on Sundays.

Finger Lakes Trail

The Finger Lake Trail passes over the top of Reiman Woods, going westward towards Connecticut Hill and eastward to Robert H. Treman Park . The trail is in great shape and passes through some interesting forests get to/from the Woods.

Westward, the trail makes a jog into the Stevenson Forest Preserve . Unfortunately, some recent logging by the bridge has made it somewhat difficult to follow the trail over some private land to the Forest Preseve. Also, FLT leaving the Preseve (westward), most CTC trails maps show the FLT passing up a gorge past the Preserve to reach Rumsey Hill Road. This has been re-routed back on to Trumbull Corner Road to the start of Rumsey Hill Road.

Eastward, the trail winds through some interesting forests and open pastures. One forest is completely beech, with some venerable specimens. The trail also leads along old hedgerows over some open pasturelands. Forest and pasture birds abound.
