My
favorite walk is the Taughannock Falls gorge trail. Probably a million
other people will pick it as well, but for good reason. It's short,
at only 3/4 of a mile long (one way), and fairly level, great for
people who are just starting out or who can't partake in a more
strenuous hike. |

| Why do you think this walk or trail is special and why would others also enjoy it? | |
| Why: I love this trail because I can take my 6-year-old son down into the stream. We look for minnows and crayfish, and splash in the water. I can tell him about how the glaciers came through the area during the ice age and carved out the Finger Lakes, and actually see the layers of stone and dirt in the gorge walls. It is really a wonderful, hands-on learning experience for children. There are always hawks flying overhead during the summer, as well as other birds. I also love it because it's the only gorge trail I know of that's open during the winter. It is nice to be able to enjoy the babbling of the water beneath the ice in the quiet of the winter, when there aren't many people around. | |
