Connecticut Hill
Submitted by: Sharon Heller
Category/Audience: Beginning hikers, Children-Families, Most Scenic-Historic
Best for: Walking-hiking, X-Country Skis, Snowshoes

Describe location/distance/terrain:
Connecticut Hill, Bob Cameron Loop (top of Tower Road heading west) and beyond, anywhere from 2-15 miles of looping trails through the woods and unplowed roads make for excellent cross country skiing.

Why do you think this walk or trail is special and why would others also enjoy it?
The highest ridge in Tompkins County attracts more snow and keeps it longer. Once off the unplowed roads you feel like you are really out there. It is a great place to bring good trail dogs. The unplowed roads are excellent for beginners as they are flat and pretty gentle. The roads are also good for skating, as they get "groomed" by the passing snowmobiles. For more solitude off the beaten path, the more technical trails in the woods keep experienced skiers challenged and provide a more wilderness experience. The Finger Lakes Trail between Boylan, Cabin and Ct Hill Road is wonderful for skiing, as the snow stays nicer in the woods. The skiing is not very difficult for most of this section, however, there are 2 gullies that make the trail more challenging. The steeper sections of the FLT, like the one between Tower Road and the lower more eastern Connecticut Hill Road (toward Trumbulls Corners) are also very good for snowshoeing.
