Abbot Loop in Danby State Forest
Submitted by: Lauren Frisch
Category/Audience: Children-Families, Experienced hikers, Most Scenic-Historic
Best for: Walking-hiking

Describe location/distance/terrain:
Abbot Loop is an approximately 7 mile moderately strenuous hike through the forest up and down hills and has a great view at Thatcher's pinnacles. It is located in the Danby State Forest.

Why do you think this walk or trail is special and why would others also enjoy it?

If you want to be one with nature, Abbot trail is a great place to do it. We have rarely come across another hiker there. The view at the pinnacles is great (see:http://ludlow.dns2go.com/cribbage/areas/dsf/needles.html) and if you go in the spring or summer, there are beautiful wildflowers to enjoy. Our family has counted more than 100 red efts on one trip. It's also a great place to enjoy songbirds.
