Deputron Hollow

"Deputron" may sound like a sidekick for Robocop, but it's actually a rustic wooded area just a few miles from Ithaca.  Deputron Hollow Road runs from Marsh Road in the west to Coddington Road in the east.  The dashed section on the map below is seasonal and minimally maintained, but it runs through a beautiful corridor, wooded and steeply sloped.  A walk along this lightly traveled road is pleasant enough.  There are also some abandoned sections of road in this area, marked in orange on the map below.  A bumpy track links Deputron Hollow Road with Olsefski Road, crossing small streams as it wanders through the woods.  Deputron Hollow Road continues west from Marsh Road, though it soon becomes too muddy for vehicle traffic.  Marsh Road once continued south from Deputron Hollow Road, and if you poke through the brush at the intersection, you'll find a pleasant old roadbed leading south.  Most of the land in this area is private, but the Town of Danby owns one small section on the north side of Deputron Hollow Road, about where the two L's in "Hollow" are on the map below.  North of this tract is a large property with a conservation easement from the Finger Lakes Land Trust, however this is not listed as one of their public preserves.
