Leadership Development for Building Community

a part of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County’s
Safe & Supportive Community initiative

Cornell Cooperative Extension offers these resources and opportunities, based on current research and experience, for community members of Tompkins County:

  • Leadership development workshops, national satellite broadcasts, seminars, and conferences
  • Expertise, resources and references on group dynamics, leadership skills, facilitation skills, goal setting and planning with groups, public issue education and other topics related to the process of building community capacity
  • Expertise and resources on issues related to Tompkins County communities, e.g.:
    • environment and water quality
    • agricultural and land use
    • food security and safety
    • family well-being
    • healthy living and work environments
    • youth

  • Consultation (limited) on your goals and strategies for achieving them
  • Contracts with Tompkins County communities to assist with planning and facilitating community meetings to:
    • identify community issues and goals
    • involve community stakeholders with varying perspectives
    • identify and build on local assets
    • develop priorities and action plans to achieve goals
    • explore ways to leverage resources outside of the community
