IN ADVANCE- Call your instructors to see if everything is in good shape.

  1. Help make car pooling arrangements as needed.
  2. Ask instructors to tell you a little about their lesson:
  • What are the 2 or 3 key points they want to cover?
  • What hands-on activities or games will be used to cover these concepts?
  • Do they have all the materials they need?
If they sound unprepared or unsure, please contact Megan Tifft at 272-2292 or met38@cornell.edu and she or someone else on the committee will follow up.
  • Set up rotation sequences.
  • Use the lesson grid to fill in the rotation schedule. Each teacher will start at a different lesson. They will rotate in order (1 goes to 2; 2 goes to 3; 3 goes to 1).
  • In a few special cases, a site will have 4 lessons, however, each class will only attend 3 of the 4 lessons.
  • Cut into strips and give one to each school teacher so they will know the order of lessons their class will have.
  • You may want to make yourself a copy to keep so you will know the day’s schedule and class locations.
  • Fill out the name tags for yourself and the other instructors at your site.

THAT DAY- Arrive at the site by 8:30 am.

  • Bring your site coordinator packet which includes the participating schools, instructors, and their phone numbers.
  • Be prepared to give lesson if necessary.
  • Know the location of first aid kits, restrooms.
  • Meet with the instructors, make sure you know the area which each lesson will use. If necessary, plan options in case of rain. Help instructors with their setup.
  • Hand out the instructor evaluations and name tags. Remind instructors to leave their evaluation form with you.

MEET THE SCHOOL:

  • Introduce yourself to the teachers. Have students stay on the bus. Give teachers their rotation slip. After lunch you will give them an evaluation form. They will fill them out after the last lesson and turn it in to you before they leave the site. Point out bathrooms, first aid kit, and possible places to store lunches. Remind teachers to participate and to be in charge of discipline.
  • Introduce yourself to the students. Explain the day's program (offered by 4-H, instructors are volunteers, filled with exciting things to see and do). Ask for their cooperation and attention throughout the day.
  • Keep everything flowing smoothly: keep groups on schedule, assist instructors as needed, including helping with problem students, encouraging teachers to be more involved, etc. After lunch organize a cleanup if necessary.

AT THE END OF THE DAY- Check over the site and organize a cleanup if necessary. Schools and instructors have been instructed to take any trash with them. However, if there is still some left behind please take it. You may dispose of it yourself or bring it to 615 Willow Avenue.

Remain at the site until the buses leave.
