The following projects were awarded matching grants in fall 2002 and were completed by fall 2003.
Brooktondale Community Center
Before: The wooden sign had deteriorated after 20 years, and the front of the community center needed landscaping.
After: Youth from a 4-H club planted bulbs and perennials, and a new sign was painted by a local artist.

Danby
Before: The large lawn in next to the Danby Town Hall is viewed from Rt. 96B and the town hall parking lot.

After: Youth from Danby planted a cutting garden of annuals, perennials and bulbs. In future years, the youth will cut flowers to sell at the Danby Farmer's Market.

Enfield Center
Before: Large evergreens were obscuring the front of this historic church building and damaging the wood siding.
After: Volunteers removed the trees, chipped them for mulch, and prepared planting sites further from the building to plant smaller flowering crabapple trees.
Ithaca Children's Garden
Before: The future site of the children's garden had summer flowers but no spring flowers.

After: Community volunteers planted over 1,000 daffodil bulbs at the annual Scarecrow Jubilee at the site of the Children's Garden on Rt. 89.
Ithaca Farmer's Market
Before: A large willow fell over on the shore of Cayuga Lake, creating an eyesore and potential erosion problem next to the farmer's market.

After:The ground was stabilized with quick-growing winter rye, and native shrubs and perennials were added to beautify the site. A path to the lake, used by canoeists and kayakers, was also stabilized to reduce erosion.
Speedsville Commons
Before: A new flagpole had been installed in the park, but lacked landscaping and lighting.

After: A
stone wall, shrubs and perennials, and a boulder create a
beautiful setting for the memorial flagpole

Speedsville Fire Department
Before: The community space next to the fire department is used for fundraisers and barbecues, and it needed landscaping.
After: A flagpole and raised planting bed with shrubs and perennials is now a centerpiece of this area. A concrete patio was also poured under the overhang of the fire department building.
West Danby
Before: Rt. 34/96 passes through West Danby, and needed some spashes of spring color to identify the hamlet. An evergreen next to the community sign was diseased and needed to be replaced.

After: Volunteers planted hundreds of bulbs in five different locations along the highway. They also planted a tree lilac next to the community sign, and annuals in the planter below the sign.
