Camp
Overview
The
Urban 4-Program is committed to providing youth with a fun,
safe and educational summer camp experience that embraces diversity
and cultural richness. The Urban 4-H Summer Camp exposes youth
to a variety of opportunities that foster self-discovery and
community awareness. Through exploration of new people, places
and things, campers walk away with a greater sense of themselves
and their valuable place in the local and greater community.
|
| Who? |
Underserved
youth from Tompkins County, ages 5-13, who would otherwise
not have the access or resources to participate in a quality
summer camp experience. |
| What? |
Programs/activities
are a balance between fun and education and include: gardening,
fishing, cultural-cooking, field-trips, environmental appreciation,
swimming, animal husbandry, arts, literature, etc. |
| When? |
The
Urban 4-H Summer Day Camp runs daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm,
beginning in late June and ending in August. |
| Where? |
The
Camp is held at 4-H Acres on Lower Creek Rd. just outside
of Ithaca. With 13 acres of woods, creeks, trails and open
space, campers are able to explore the natural environment
while still being close enough to town to take advantage
of all the cultural and recreational resources Ithaca provides. |
| Why? |
Because
every child deserves the unique opportunity for personal
growth that camp provides.
The opportunity to experience new things and to form new friendship
with peers and caring adults is one we believe no child should be
without. |
