Summer 2004 Open 4-H Youth Model Horse Show
July 30 at the Tompkins County 4-H Youth Fair, 4-H Acres

Early Entry Fee is due Wednesday, July 14.

All Exhibitors for the Open 4-H Youth Model Horse Show must register on this Official Entry Form. Classes are open to any youth between the ages of 9-18. No refunds. Show officials reserve the right to refuse day of show entries if space is limiting. Limit 1 original finish model per class per exhibitor. Horses may be shown in more than one class. Classes may be combined according to age and experience level, based on the number of entries received. Registration begins at 1:30 PM, classes begin at 2 PM and will be finished by 4:30 PM. Registration fee is waived for youth enrolled in the Tompkins County 4-H program. Registration fee must accompany this registration form or entry will not be accepted.

Class List


1. English Pleasure English tack required. Horse should appear to be a pleasure to ride (a rearing stallion is NOT a pleasure horse). Models may be standing, walking, trotting or cantering.

2. English Performance Includes dressage, hunter/jumper, saddleseat, and sidesaddle. Correct tack required. A jump or obstacle is required for hunter/jumpers.

3. English Trail Class An obstacle is required, may be natural or man-made.

4. Harness Class A harness is required, but a cart is NOT required. Make sure the harness is appropriate for the breed of horse. Horse may or may not have blinders.

5. Western Pleasure Western stock saddle, blanket and western bridle with standard western bits or bosal are required. Nosebands are not allowed. Models may be shown at halt, walk, jog or lope.

6. Western Working Includes roping, calf work, cutting, and reining. Obstacles, props or cattle are required, depending on event depicted.

7. Western Trail Class An obstacle is required, may be natural or man-made.

8. Games and Sports Includes any gymkhana event including pole bending, scurry, barrels, etc., or sports such as polo, vaulting, racing, endurance, fox hunting, military drills, etc. Props and suitable tack required.

9. Traditional Costume Class Arabian native, Middle Ages, parade, Native American, circus, or Spanish costumes.

10. Creative Costume Any costume other than those included in Tradition Costume Class.

11. Famous Cartoon Character Models are exhibited as a famous cartoon character. Judged on creativity of costume and resemblance to cartoon character.

12. Punny Horses Models are made to represent a play-on-words of “horse” such as a model with wings called horsefly.

13. Mystery Class Exhibitors are given a random array of props from show officials with which to display their model.

14. I Did It Myself Class Exhibitors may enter a prop or other item used in display that they made themselves.

15. Collectors Class Exhibitors show one collection of at least 3 models. Models must be attractively displayed and be chosen to fit a theme (Ex. Horses in Literature, Breyer’s Shetland Pony Mold Through the Year’s, Spirit’s Family, etc)
