What is the Long Term Care Insurance Education and Outreach Program? Cynthia Russell cr224@cornell.edu More about LTCIEOP: To increase the public’s awareness of LTCIEOP, a link has been established with the Suffolk County Office for the Aging’s Health Insurance Information, Counseling and Assistance Program (H.I.I.C.A.P.). This program offers free, confidential and unbiased insurance information and counseling to Medicare recipients and their families. The LTCIEOP's coordinator provides training and technical assistance to H.I.I.C.A.P. staff and volunteers and is available on a regular basis to respond to questions and concerns. In addition, the coordinator will solicit feedback from H.I.I.C.A.P. and other counselors and distributes evaluation forms at each public presentation. Enhancing LTCIEOP, a relationship with the New York State Partnership for Long-Term Care has been established. This unique and innovative program combines private long-term care insurance and Medicaid
Extended Coverage
to help consumers prepare financially for the possibility of future nursing home or home health care needs. This program allows New Yorkers to protect
some or all of
their assets while remaining eligible for Medicaid. The LTCIEOP coordinator disseminates information concerning this program to make consumers aware of participating insurers they can contact. Through public contact, community-wide seminars, volunteer recruitment and training, Cornell Cooperative Extension Long-Term Care Insurance Education and Outreach Program insures that consumers receive timely and accurate information presented in an unbiased manner in order to make the best choices for long-term care insurance.
