Parenting and Child Care

It is the mission of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County to develop the competence and character of youth and adults in families and communities by creating opportunities for research-based knowledge acquisition. Two important initiatives related to this issue are promoting positive parenting skills and disseminating information concerning quality childcare.

Divorce Education

A program to provide parents with information about the impact of separation or divorce on both themselves and their children.

Ages & Stages

There are developmental milestones for growth. However, no two children are exactly alike. Each child seems to have his own "growth plan," physically and emotionally. CCE-Steuben provides classes for parents with topics ranging from infant & toddler development to adolescent issues. Bullying, sibling rivaly, teen stress, and asset development are just a few examples.

Child Care

A quality child care program, whether center-or home-based, is caring, respectful, tuned in, safe and secure. Cornell Cooperative Extension promotes these ideals by training staff and parents to understand quality in child care and explore how to find satisfactory child care arrangements.

A series of five child care fact sheets have been developed for this purpose:

What is high quality child care?

Visiting and interviewing center-based child care providers

Visiting and interviewing family child care providers

Visiting and interviewing school-age child care providers

Paying for child care
