In an effort to reduce the accumulation of toxic materials in landfills, the volunteers will conduct a campaign titled “Know Your Batteries,” which will focus on public education about the various types of household batteries and their proper disposal. RESP is a collaborative effort of RSVP, Cornell University, Chemung EMC and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schuyler County. Older adults interested in participating in community volunteer opportunities should contact Schuyler-Yates RSVP serving Schuyler and Yates Counties at (607) 535-7105 for further information. Your RSVP Stories Why do people volunteer you may ask? The answer is as varied as the volunteer you may ask the question of. That has been my experience as the Coordinator, of the Chemung-Schuyler-Tioga Long Term Care Ombudsman Program. And when I sat down recently to talk to two of my ombudsmen volunteers, I was neither surprised nor disappointed by their responses. RSVP volunteers Nancy Davis and Anne Myers are trained and certified long term care ombudsmen volunteers with the Chemung-Schuyler-Tioga Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman Program (LTCOP). As ombudsmen, they advocate on behalf of residents who live at the New Falls Home and Seneca View Nursing Home here in Schuyler County. After successfully completing the 36-hour training program, Nancy and Anne were assigned to their facilities where they visit the residents on a weekly basis and help to resolve any questions, concerns or issues that the residents or the resident’s representatives may express.
