Population

Shoreline of Skaneateles LakeThe Village of Skaneateles is located at the north end of the lake. It encompasses the bulk of commercial land use in the watershed.

The village of Skaneateles is the only municipality with a public sewer system. The remaining watershed homes use individual wastewater treatment systems.

Because of its proximity to Syracuse, NY land around Skaneateles Lake is undergoing a transition. Gentle slopes, nearby utilities, and scenic vistas make residential development attractive in the northern part of the watershed. Much of this land was once used for agricultural activities.

In the southern end, residential development is limited by steep slopes and poor soils. This land area remains mostly forested.
