2008 Onondaga Co. Pesticide Management Meeting

CCE Onondaga County is hosting the 2008 Pesticide Management Meeting. The seminar will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Delphi Falls Fire Department located on Oran-Delphi Rd., 2 miles south of USA Route 20, just west of Cazenovia, NY. Registration begins a 9:30 a.m. with the meeting beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m.

Presentations include New Seed Technologies for Pest Resistance by Don Specker, Pioneer Hi Bred International DuPont Ag, New Corn Herbicides and Residual Herbicide Update by Russ Hahn, Cornell University, Small Grain Genetics for Disease Resistance by Margaret Smith, Cornell University, Chemical Fates in Soils by Murray McBride, Cornell University, Soil Conservation and IPM by Julie Dennis, IPM Specialist, Cornell University, Emergency Preparedness and Chemical Spills by Mark Burger, Skaneateles Lake Watershed Program, Weed Control Through Cover Crops by Eric Jensen and NYS DEC Regulations Update by Don Nelson with the NYSDEC. CCA and DEC continuing education credits (Agricultural Plant 1a, Field and Forage 21 and Core) have been requested.

Cost is $30 per person with pre-registration due March 17, 2008 or $45 at the door. March is National Nutrition Month! Kathy Dischner, RD and Nutrition Team Coordinator, will be a guest on WCNY's Food For Thought on March 7th at- 12:30 pm and 10 pm. Learn how to prepare quick and healthy recipes like Broccoli, Black Bean and Cheese Quesadilla and Apple-Cinnamon Wrap and Roll - both kid tested and mother approved. Pre-proposal for Purchase of Development Rights

The Onondaga County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board is seeking pre-proposals for the purchase of development rights from farmland in Onondaga Co. Two informational meetings about the pre-proposal process will be held. The first will be held Tuesday, February 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will focus on the Onondaga County process to apply for the NYS Department of Agriculture and Market’s Farmland Protection Implementation Grant Program. The second meeting will be held Tuesday, March 4 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will focus on conservation easements and land planning of funded projects. Both meetings will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension, Onondaga Co., 220 Herald Place, 2nd floor, Syracuse, NY. QuickBooks for Farm Businesses

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County will be offering a 3-part QuickBooks course in collaboration with The Whitman School of Management of Syracuse University at the South Side Innovation Center in Syracuse. The course will be held February 14th, 21st and 28th, 2008 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. (Full text)
