Snackin' Healthy
A program empowering youth to identify, choose and prepare foods that are both nutritious and delicious.
In
"Snackin' Healthy" students will learn to make healthy food choices based on the Food Guide Pyramid through:
Games: such as Jeopardy and Pyramid Bingo.
Activities: such as Rate Your Plate, Low-fat Milk Challenge, Mystery Box, Sugar Sleuths and Adverteasing.
Hands-On Snack Preparation: each class will learn and prepare a recipe featuring foods from the Food Group of the Day (ex. Trail Mix, Purple Cow, and Cheese and Bean Quesadilla's).
Outcomes: Youth who complete the program will be able to:
• identify healthy foods from each of the five food groups
• identify and choose foods with less fat, sugar and salt
• choose foods that contain key nutrients needed for good health
• use clean, safe, and sanitary methods when preparing food
• be part of a group learning experience where they are valued and respected.
Program Length: Six 1-1 1/2 hour sessions. (The program can be altered to fit your needs.)
Where: Programs are held in your facility. We ask that a staff person be present during all classes that we facilitate. We appreciate your support of this request.

Certificate of Completion will be given to each student who participates in the program.

Who can Attend? Snacking Healthy is part of the "Eat Smart New York" program sponsored by the USDA. Youth from families receiving food stamps or attending schools where a large percentage of students receive free/reduced price lunches are eligible.
There is
NO FEE for the program. However, we require that you provide the food or financial reimbursement in order to provide cooking experiences.
