The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit.

become a
CommuniTree Steward

Learn how to prune, plant, maintain and identify trees.

CommuniTree Stewards care for trees in public places to ensure the health and beauty of our communitites.

Since 2002, Stewards have given 4,951 hours planting and caring for over street and park trees in Onondaga County.

Volunteers receice 10 hours of hands-on instruction in tree biology and care. IN exchange, Stewards give 15 hours of service caring for public trees.

CommuniTree Stewards have provided service to our communities that would otherwise not happen due to budget constraints and lack of staff.

All work is done with hand tools, two feet on the ground. Children 13-18 may participate if accompanied by a parent or responsible adult

I would like to thank you and your tree stewards for the great job done in planting this year's order of bare-root trees. I have advised our Village Board of the great job your crew did... The benefits of this cooperation will last for years and be enjoyed by the present and future residents of East Syracuse.

Ron Russell, DPW Superintendent, Village of East Syracuse

I just want to write to tell you what a great job you and your crew did on Leavenworth Park. It looks so great!! It is obvious that you all enjoy the work that you do... we appreciate your work and we thank you and your crew for all that you have done to keep our park looking beautiful.

Michelle Hall, Park Ave Neighborhood Watch

Community Tree Planting

Plant a Tree, Transform a City

Every year, the Community Forestry program at CCE works with local communities to make Syracuse a little greener. Through the Community Tree Buying Program, municipalities are given the opportunity to buy inexpensive street trees that are planted in early November.

Volunteers are needed to help plant some of these trees throughout Onondaga County.

Volunteer crew leaders are also needed to help guide others in the planting process. Crew leaders attend training sessions before planting day.

Projects will happen in early November. volunteer6UF.jpg
