Food Safety Program

Food safety is everyone's concern, but the prevention of foodborne illness is most often in the hands of the people who store, prepare and serve food. The majority of foodborne illness cases and outbreaks are traced to simple food preparation errors in homes or foodservice operations. Ultimately, the keys to preventing foodborne illness are education and proper training. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County plays an important role in this process. We provide research-based education programs for local foodservice operators and research-based information for county residents.

Food Safety Education
For the Foodservice Industry:

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County in cooperation with the foodservice industry, health officials and local, state and national foodservice associations and organizations, provides food safety training for local foodservice operators and their employees. For a look at the foodservice training options, visit our Food Safety Training page.

For Consumers:

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County provides up-to-date, research-based information to Onondaga County residents through a variety of mediums. For food safety tips, recommendations and resources, visit our Food Safety for Consumers page.
