CCE Onondaga Co. worked with residents and business owners in the Town of Fabius to host a series of meetings on Renewable Energy. Following these meetings a steering committee was formed which resulted in the desire to complete a town-wide comprehensive plan for energy production and use within the town. Current efforts are to secure funding to create the comprehensive plan. CCE Onondaga County is also a member of the Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation (REEC) program work team (PWT) at Cornell University. The REEC PWT is a collaboration of industry, policy and Cornell University researchers.

Local interest in renewable energy technology created a series of informational meetings in Fabius in early 2007. The speakers presented an array of ideas and existing projects that stimulated much discussion on local possibilities. The goal of the Fabius Energy Plan is to implement sustainable initiatives and encourage investment in local renewable energy production within the town to reduce energy costs, utilize local natural resources, allow business opportunities, and reduce dependence on outside energy sources. This plan would involve an analysis of current energy consumption, production and delivery systems within the town and explore ways in which local renewable energy resources could be developed and integrated in local consumption patterns.
