Eat Smart New York

Eat Smart New York (ESNY) is a nutrition education program in Onondaga County designed to help food stamp recipients improve their nutrition practices through practical, interactive, hands-on classes focusing on improving dietary quality, food security, resource management and food safety practices to improve the health and wellbeing of limited-resource families.

Our Cornell Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County's Nutrition education team faciliates comprehensive programs for up to 400 adult residents including families with young children, participants in workforce development, agency-support programs, seniors and over 500 youth in after-school programs. Up to 250 adults complete a series of 6-8 classes designed to build on participants current strengths. To participate in "Eat Smart New York Programs, residents must participate in:
  • The Food Stamp Program

  • Be an Applicant to the Food Stamp Program

  • Participate in WIC or the Head Start Program
