Onondaga 4-H Youth Excel in Competitions

1stplacesrHBteam.jpgOnondaga 4-H youth competed in North Central District Dairy Bowl at Copenhagen, NY and 2008 Horse Bonanza Day at Morrisville-Eaton High School which includes Horse Bowl, Horse Communications, and Hippology competitions. Competitions such as Dairy Bowl, Horse Bowl and Hippology allow youth to demonstrate their increasing knowledge about the dairy and equine industries learned through club programs and through collaborative regional events sponsored by CCE, Cazenovia College, and SUNY Morrisville.

Four Dairy 4-H members competed at the North Central District Dairy Bowl on March 15th at Copenhagen Central School. Shane Rohe (Syracuse), novice, joined Oneida team and received 1st place (6-0). Sara Crego(Baldwinsville), Erin Rohe (Syracuse), and Lucas Potter (Marcellus) competed in the senior division and placed 5th team. Sara placed 5th individual and is an alternate for the NYS Dairy Bowl team.

HBH01.jpgSeventeen Horse 4-H youth competed at Region 3B Horse Bonanza Day at Morrisville-Eaton High School. Horse Bowl had Onondaga Senior team placing 1st. Members of the team were Kala Stafford (LaFayette), Connie Potter (Fabius), Emily Burt (Syracuse), and Lissa DiPaola (Syracuse). Kala was 1st place individual and will compete at NYS Horse Bowl competition at Cornell in April. Connie was 6th individual and Emily was 7th individual. Junior competitiors were Taylor Soderholm (Tully), Caitlin Ramsey ( DeWitt), Marly Cummings (Tully), Annie Voutsinas (Tully), Alexandria Rowley (Tully), Jessica Murphy (Tully), Tianna DeChick (Camillus),and Brandy Burnham (Marcellus). Novice competitors were Alexis Poltorak (Tully), Brandi Fritz (Marietta), Anna Castilano (Syracuse), Bernadette Castilano (Syracuse), and Catherine Castilano (Syracuse). Anna Castilano placed 8th individual and Brandi Fritz placed 10th individual.

4H 003.jpgHippology competiton had Novice division Brandi Fritz (Marietta) receiving 9th place individual and Junior division Marley Cummings (Tully) placing 7th individual and Jessica Murphy (Tully) placing 8th individual. These two will compete at the NYS Hippology contest at NYS Fair. Senior division had Emily Burt (Syracuse) placing 4th individual, Lissa DiPaola (Syracuse) placing 6th individual, and Connie Potter (Fabius) placing 9th individual with Emily and Lissa also competing at the NYS Hippology contest.

Congratulations to all our wonderful coaches, volunteers, and parents that helped these youth to excel in their animal knowledge and give them the opportunity to meet youth from other counties and compare their animal knowledge. Onondaga County is very proud of your accomplishments.
