What do we do?
Consistent with the mission of Cornell Cooperative Extension, we respond to the educational needs of the agricultural community in Lewis County. This includes farmers and farm families, professionals that serve the ag industry, youth, and where needed the non-farm public as well.
How do we do it?
We use a whole farm approach to help farm businesses meet their business & family goals. This means using one another and, where necessary, bringing in outside specialists to make sure the information we provide is best for the future of the business. Monthly meetings of our Agriculture Program Committee, which consists of Lewis County producers and agri-service professionals, guide our program.
CCE educates in many ways:
-Group seminars/conferences/hands-on workshops
-Individual meetings on-farm, or at the office
-Responding to phone calls, e-mails
-A monthly newsletter Lewis County Ag Digest
-Helping producers make connections that allow them to improve their business
-Conducting on-farm research to answer questions that specifically affect this region
-Speaking at schools, and to youth ag groups
-Using the media to inform and educate
-Working with agri-service professionals a multiplier group
