Ribes in History & Culture

What is TIRA?

TIRA MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

Our membership includes researchers, commercial and home gardeners, nurseries, and anyone else connected with the Ribes industry. Membership includes a quarterly newsletter, a cumulative newsletter index for easy reference to previous articles, and a current membership list so members can be aware of Ribes enthusiasts in their area. In addition, TIRA maintains this website, eight listservs, a global calendar of events, and a promotional materials exchange.

Members are invited to attend an annual North American Ribes conference and meeting, usually held the first part of the year. This year, a mega conference was held in Niagara Falls that included The International Ribes Association, North American Strawberry Growers, Ontario Berry Growers, New York State Berry Growers, and North American Bramble Growers. In the middle of the year an additional meeting at the annual Rubus Ribes Symposium was held in Europe.

Membership in TIRA is on an annual basis. To join, print and fill out the membership form and mail it to:

Committees have a global focus for the sector of the industry they represent, and are administered by an international board.

Chapters

Chapters focus on challenges unique to their geographical area, and are administered locally. They have their own calendars of events that are shared with the international organization. They each set their own dues and administer their own budget according to the will of the members.

TIRA distributes two books of interest to Ribes enthusiasts. These may be ordered from the TIRA secretary.
