Pre-Season Farmer's Market Training & Potluck

We will be hosting a pre-season farmer's market training at our Plattsburgh office on May 15th from 5:30pm - 9:30pm. This event is a combination potluck and workshop led by Bernadette Logozar, Cornell Cooperative Extension Franklin County, and Jane Desotelle, Adirondack Farmers Market Cooperative. Topics include Rules and Regulations, Displays, Pricing, and Getting Ready for the Market. The training is geared for new farmer's market vendors, although all vendors are warmly welcomed.

 

Garden Photography Workshop, Part 1

You don't have to be a gardener to be an admierer of their beauty. But if you are like me, capturing that beauty in a photograph can be a challenge. This discussion-based class will cover basic techniques for successful garden photography. Specific topics covered include how to take flower close-ups, use of backlighting, and taking photos that have a central focal point. Master Gardener Volunteer and professional photographer Lorraine Chilson will teach this course from 7:00pm - 8:30pm on May 28 at the Plattsburgh Cooperative Extension Office. The fee is $25, which includes all printed materials. Class size is limited to 20 people so sign-up today!

 

Bug Appreciation and Alternative Pest Management

Contrary to many people's belief not all bugs are bad. In fact most bugs help us by pollinating our vegetables, fruit, and flowers, eating other bugs that are pests, and much more! Learn why some bugs are good and alternative ways of dealing with the bad bugs from Anne Lenox Barlow. This June 4 class will be held from 7:00pm - 8:30pm at the Plattsburgh Extension Office. The fee is $15, which includes all printed materials.

 

Cold Climate Viticulture Day Long Workshop

The North Country has seen a burgeoning interest in grapes and wines. Come to a day-long workshop on June 4 at Noblewood Park, Willsboro to learn all about cold climate viticulture from Cornell Cooperative Exention's viticulture experts. Topics will include vineyard site selection, cold climate varieties and wines from these varieties, vineyard site preparation, planting, training, and trellising options, pest management, and basic targets for profitable grape and wine production. The cost is $50 which includes a CD-ROM of all the presentations, lunch, an afternoon reception, and an educational tasting of wine samples. Plattsburgh Farmer's Market

Our horticulture educator, Anne Lenox Barlow, and Master Gardener Volunteers will be at the June 7th Plattsburgh Farmers Market from 9:00am - noon to answer questions, have live demostrations, and provide the farmer's market shoppers with helpful information.

 

Wild Center Event

Amy Ivy, Anne Lenox Barlow, and Emily Selleck (the Essex County horticulture educator) will be at the Wild Center, in Tupper Lake, from noon until 3:00pm on Sunday June 8th for a fun-filled gardening afternoon. The event will include talks landscaping for on energy and water conservation, storing and freezing produce, and growing berries at home. We will also have displays, educational brochures, and be on hand to answer any questions you might have. So, come on out to enjoy the beautiful natural history museum of the Adirondacks and learn a bit about gardening!

 

Perennial Plant Sale

Stop by the Plattsburgh Extension Office on Saturday, June 14 for the Master Gardener Volunteer's first perennial plant sale from 9:00am until noon. There will be a wide variety of zone 4 perennials available to help beautify your gardens. All perennials will be potted, good sized plants ready for you to take home. This event is rain or shine.

 

Garden Photography Workshop, Part 2

Master Gardener Volunteer and professional photographer Lorraine Chilson will teach this hands-onworkshop, which provides participants with the opportunity to better utilize their photography equipment when taking garden photographs. The techniques taught during the May 28 workshop will be put inot use in an actual garden setting. Participants should bring their cameras, flash, extra batteries, and, if you have one, a tripod. The cost of the program is $25 and will be held on Sunday, June 15 from 3:00pm - 5:00pm. The rain date is June 22 at the same time. Site location will be give to participants when they register. Enrollment is limited to 15 people, so reserve your spot early.

 

Plattsburgh Farmer's Market

Clinton County Fair

Stop by the Master Gardener Volunteers' display in the Farm and Family Building at the Clinton County Fair on July 22-26. This year we've really spiced things up with a flower garden and a vegetable garden, live demonstrations, and free give aways. We can't wait to see you at the fair!
