Goat Discussion Group

If you would like to be involved but are unable to attend, please call 561-7450 so that I can keep you on the radar. The first meeting will allow us to lay ground work for future meetings, we will also briefly address marketing in our area as well. A more indepth marketing meeting to follow. Please join us!
Spanish Calf Care Workshop

Hola! I'm sure most of the herd managers are understanding spanish a little more with each passing days and likewise workers are picking up on the English. wouldn't it be nice though if someone could directly tell your workforce why you do certain things on your farm...and explain it to them in their native language? Please join us as Dr. Jerry Bertoldo veterinarian and translator Greg Coffta doa a cal care workshop focusing on birth to weaning in dairy cattle. He will explain in Spanish and use hands-on training methods in the areas of calf husbandry including feeding, weaning, diagnosing illness, treatments, medications, ear tagging, dehorning, sanitation, recordkeeping and much more! Carcass Evaluation Workshop
When: Saturday, September 13th
Where: Penny Pombrio Beef Farm Vassar Road, Sciota, NY
Time: 2-5pm
Raise animals of a more consistent quality. Come to the workshop to learn how to grade cattle and evaluate carcass composition in order to meet the needs of today's market demands. Beef Specialist Mike Baker will be there, on farm. Producers will be able to practice their grading skills, see how ultrasounding impacts grading evaluation per the amount of fat and muscle shown by ultrasound results, and will view a "Hoof to Rail" video that compares live animal grading with actual hanging carcass results.

Short on a few Pesticide Applicator Credits?
Core category pesticide applicator credits can be earned on-line at Cornell Cooperative Extension offices. In Clinton County call our office to set up an appointment, cost is $5/credit. Remember that not all your credits can be in core, some have to be category specific.
