About 4-H

4-H Clubs
When most people hear "4-H" they think of the traditional 4-H club structure. A 4-H club is a group of at least (5) school-aged youth, guided by 1 or more adult volunteers. Clubs meet in schools, churches, community centers, or homes to complete a variety of 4-H projects throughout the year. With the exception of a few county-wide clubs, members of a club are usually from the same community. The Chenango County 4-H program currently has (22) organized clubs in nearly every Chenango County community.

Special Interest Programs
Special Interest Programs are ones that youth enroll in for a special and specific learning experience, or a specified length of time. These programs are open to all youth in Chenango County. Currently the only Special Interest Program that the Chenango County 4-H program offers is our annual Farm & Tractor Safety Certification program.

Community Outreach
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County has a wide variety of resources, including project curriculum guides, available for use by After-School Programs, Summer Recreation Programs, Community Youth Groups, and Home Schooling Families. Representatives from all of these groups are encouraged to stop by our office and take a look at what we have to offer. Staff are also available to provide training on project curriculum or offer staff development advice on implementing the experiential learning model.

Camps
Although the Chenango County 4-H program does not offer a formal 4-H Camp, there are (9) 4-H Camps in New York State that youth can take advantage of. See http://www.4hcampsny.org/ for more information.
