Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Need to get rid of paints and solvents in the garage?

We can help!

 

What to Do:


Do
  • Bring hazardous waste, like fluorescent lights, paints, solvents, thinners
    • (click here for more information)
  • Bring paints: oil-based paints only
Don't
  • Don't "drop in" - please register first.
  • Don't bring appliances for heating or cooling, like stoves, coffee makers, refrigerators, coolers, microwave ovens.
  • Don't bring electronics to recycle - obtain a voucher as explained below for electronics recycling.
  • No pets.
  • No smoking.
  • Box your recycling items, and place them in your trunk, so the volunteers can easily retrieve them.

*** Electronics recycling is now year-round. If you have electronics to recycle, obtain a voucher either by:
  • stopping by Cooperative Extension between 9:30 and 3:00 or
  • calling 734 4453.

A voucher is required for participation in this free electronics recycling program. Drop-off information will be available when you get your voucher.

Got FREON?

Appliances that contain freon (air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, freezers) can not be taken to any Chemung County transfer station.

You can, however, dispose of them properly by calling one of these agencies:

  • Swarthout Recycling 607 936 0013
    - drop-off only, no charge

  • Foster's Disposal 607 734 2502
    - drop-off only
    - refrigerator / freezer: $10.00 charge
    - air conditioner / dehumidifier: $5.00 charge

  • Fix Rite 607 733 3195
    - appliance drop-off fee: $10.00
    - pick-up fee: $20.00
