Old MacDonald's Farm
June
1-6, 2009
Experience the legacy of our agricultural history!
Our community offers a wide variety of shopping, entertainment,
and high-tech activities for children and families, but hundreds
of residents have literally never had contact with farm animals
or the legacy of our rich agricultural history.
The 40th Annual Old MacDonald’s Farm is again coming to
town to offer families an opportunity to get back to their roots
and learn first hand about an important part of our American culture.
The temporary farm runs from June 1-6 at the Chemung County Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chemung County and
the Elmira Kiwanis Club, the event is open to the public and offers
free admission.
The week-long farm experience draws over 6,000 visitors including
school children during the weekdays and families on evenings and
throughout Family Day. Special school programs will be held during
the week including Agriculture Science Day for fourth graders. The
agriculture program includes segments on bees, dairy, composting,
soil and water conservation, Pizza Wheel and the Chemung Valley
Farmer's Museum.
The weekend highlights a Dog Show-N-Go Clinic from 10:00 a.m.
to 2:00 pm. Saturday activities include children’s activities:
Petal Tractor Pull, several make and take activities and a Chicken
BBQ with presale tickets available at the Extension office. Please
call the office at 734-4453.
Times open to the public:
- Monday to Friday, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
For more information call the 4-H Department at Cornell Cooperative
Extension of Chemung County, 734-4453.
