Healthy Families for a Healthier Tomorrow

    Increase age-appropriate physical activity.
  • Encourage active play.
  • Turn off the TV and video games.
  • Play and be physically active with your chidren.
  • Move toward good health.
  • Be a role model.

    Increase Intake of Vegetables and Fruits
  • Offer vegetables and fruit at every meal.
  • Choose a vegetable or a fruit as a snack.
  • Try different vegetables and fruits.
  • Go for the greens!
  • Be a role model.

    Increase intake of low-fat and fat-free dairy foods.
  • Offer low-fat (1%) or fat-free milk.
  • Choose reduced fat, low-fat, lite or part-skim cheeses.
  • Cook with low-fat dairy foods.
  • Moove to 1% or less!
  • Be a role model.
    Obesity
  • Childhood obestiy is a major public helath problem in New York State.
  • Nearly one third of New York's school children are overweight or at risk of overweight.
  • Obesity is the second most preventable cause of death in the United States.
  • If parents are overweight, their children are more likely to be overweight.
