Wyoming County 4-H Members Excel At State Public Presentations

Outstanding Wyoming County 4-H Presenters: Lauren Ciurzynski of Attica, Jeanine Youngers of Arcade, Morgan Reisdorf of Strykersville, and Mary Katherine Zielonka of Bennington.

On Saturday, October 4th, ninety-one youth from thirty-four counties traveled to Cornell University to participate in the New York State 4-H Public Presentations Event. Four Wyoming County 4-H members qualified for this event with superior presentations at the county and district levels. Lauren Ciurzynski, daughter of David and Amy Ciurzynski of Attica, demonstrated "Ballet." Morgan Reisdorf, daughter of Randy and Vickie Reisdorf of Strykersville, presented a dramatic interpretation entitled "Catholic School Girls." Morgan placed second in the state and earned a silver medal. Jeanine Youngers, daughter of Jim and Sarah Youngers of Arcade, presented an illustrated talk entitled "Health: The Fourth H." Mary Katherine Zielonka, daughter of Albert and Deborah Zielonka of Bennington, recited "Whatever the Weather." Mary Katherine's recitation placed third in the state and she earned a bronze medal. Congratulations to Wyoming County's outstanding presenters!

 

Wyoming County 4-H Dairy Judging Teams Are State Champions

Wyoming County 4-H Dairy Judges earned an unprecedented level of success at the recent New York State Fair Dairy Cattle Judging Contest. Under the direction of coaches Jamie Flint of Warsaw and Todd Richards of Silver Springs, these 4-H members have trained for months for the state contest. The state 4-H dairy cattle judging contest tests a member's ability to evaluate dairy animals. Older 4-H members are also expected to verbally explain their decisions to an official judge through oral reasons. Results of the contest follow:

Senior Division - State Champion Team
Team Members - Brittany Spencer, Perry, 4th Place overall; Ben Colopy, Castile, 5th Place; Darin Buckenmeyer, Alexander, 6th Place; and Marshall Hinz, Fillmore, 7th Place. Spencer will represent New York 4-H at the National 4-H Dairy Cattle Judging Contest at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin. Colopy, Buckenmeyer, and Hinz will compete in the All-American Dairy Show 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

Junior Division - 7th Place Team
Team Members - Jared Dueppengiesser, Perry, 6th Place; Jacob Dueppengiesser, Perry, 7th Place; Emily Richards, Silver Springs; and Luke Colopy, Castile.

Novice Division - State Champion Team
Team Members - Alton Rudgers, Attica, 1st Place; Adam Buckenmeyer, Alexander, 2nd Place; Lydia Milligan, Pavilion, 8th Place; and Hope Vanderwater, Holland.

Wyoming County 4-H Dairy Challenge Competitors earned high marks at the recent New York State Fair Dairy Challenge Contest. The state 4-H Dairy Challenge contest tests a member's knowledge of multiple facets of the dairy industry. Results of the contest follow:

Senior Division - 4th Place Team
Team Members - Kelsie Brennan, Wyoming, 7th Place; Lyman Rudgers, Attica, 9th Place; and Alton Rudgers, Attica.

Junior Division - 5th Place Team
Team Members - Lindsay Chamberlain, Wyoming, 8th Place; Camron Cox, Wyoming; Keith Koerner, Portageville; and Grant Cox, Wyoming.

 

Wyoming County 4-H Dairy Exhibitors Are Successful at the New York State Fair

Wyoming County 4-H Dairy Exhibitors earned many awards at this year's New York State Fair Youth Dairy Show, held August 20 through September 1 in Syracuse. In the Showmanship Competition, where 4-H members are evaluated on how well they present their dairy animal to the judge, 9 youth represented Wyoming County well. Lauren Osborn of Portageville was the Overall Champion Showman with her Brown Swiss heifer. Earning Master Showman awards were Melissa Bartholomew of Wyoming, Jacob Dueppengiesser of Perry, and Marshall Hinz of Fillmore. Earning Blue Ribbons were Dore Baker of Wyoming, Adam and Darin Buckenmeyer of Alexander, Emily Calkins of Varysburg, and Natalie Emerling of Perry.

In conformation classes, where just the animal is evaluated, several youth received high awards. In the Holstein division, both the Junior Champion and Reserve Junior Champion honors went to Wyoming County 4-H members. Jacob Dueppengiesser and Natalie Emerling, both of Perry, exhibited those champions. In addition, Lauren Osborn of Portageville earned the Reserve Junior Champion Brown Swiss Award, and Marshall Hinz of Fillmore was the exhibitor of the Reserve Grand Champion Ayrshire.
