Heat and Humidity
The extreme heat and humidity that has engulfed NYS over the weekend is
due to continue for a few more days. NY Alert has issued heat advisories
in some parts of the state (Albany, Saratoga, Rennselaer and Schenectady
Counties, NYC and Long Island), however we all are subject to heat stress
and heat illnesses. The following link is the CDC source for Extreme
Heat:

Salmonellosis Outbreak in Tomatoes
Toward the end of last week the salmonellosis outbreak in tomatoes had
spread to 16 states and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has
provided further information on this issue due to its potential to
spread. Please check this link for the most current information:

Guidelines for Safe Handling of Produce
The FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) offers
guidelines for safe handling of raw produce and fresh squeezed fruit and
vegetable juices. This is a very colorful, easy to read brochure and can
be downloaded in pdf for duplication. This seems like a very appropriate
time to provide you with this resource -- it will also be available on the
NY EDEN website in the Food Safety section.
