Natural gas leasing issues currently are at the top of the list of concerns, listening to landowners. There has been a lot of activity particularly in the southern parts of Seneca County. Farm Bureau recently held an informational meeting at the Ginny Lea cafe at Wagner Winery, and close to if not more than 200 people attended. There were some general tips offered; don't be in a hurry to sign. Make sure you can have your lease reviewed by a lawyer who is knowledgable in gas lease issues. Numbers are your friend - form a group with your neighbors so that you can negotiate a price as a group with a larger land base. Gas companies will deal more generously with a larger group/land mass than an individual. If you want more information, Farm Bureau is holding informational seminars at the Empire Farm Show, this August 5-7. You can also access information on-line at http://www.nyfb.org/Gas&OilLeasing.htm, and http://gasleasing.cce.cornell.edu/.
