Beginner’s Vegetable Gardening: Preparing a Vegetable Garden, Sunday October 5
Interested in starting a vegetable garden, but don’t know where to start? Look no further than Cornell Cooperative Extension! We are starting a new series on vegetable gardening for beginners this fall. The first class in this series will focus on preparing your garden bed, which should ideally be done the fall prior to planting. This is a hands-on class, so participants should dress in work clothes. Amy Ivy will be leading this class which will meet from 2:00pm-4:00pm at the office. The cost is $15 and registration is required by October 2. Call 561-7450 to reserve your spot today!
Garden Photography I, Wednesday October 8
You don’t have to be a gardener to be an admirer of their beauty. But, capturing that beauty in a photograph can be a challenge. This discussion-based class will cover the basic techniques for successful garden photography. Specific topics covered include how to take flower close-ups, use of backlighting, and taking photos that have a central focal point. Master Gardener Volunteer and professional photographer Lorraine Chilson will teach this course from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the office. The fee is $25, which includes all printed materials. Class size is limited so call today to register at 561-7450.
Garden Photography II, Sunday October 12
Master Gardener Volunteer and professional photographer Lorraine Chilson will teach this hands-on workshop, which provides participants with the opportunity to better utilize their photography equipment when taking garden photographs. The techniques taught during the September 10 class will be put to use in an actual garden setting. Participants should bring their cameras, flash, extra batteries, and, if you have one, tripod. The cost of the program is $25. The class is on Sunday September 14 from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the office. Enrollment is limited to 15 people, so reserve your spot early! Call 561-7450 to register.
Bus Trip: Montreal Botanical Gardens, Thursday October 16
Tour the beautiful Montreal Botanical Gardens during their festival of lanterns with Cornell Cooperative Extension. We’ve scheduled the trip so that we will have time to visit the green houses, many exciting fall exhibits, and grounds during the afternoon, have dinner on your own, and then enjoy the hundreds of hand-crafted silk lanterns in the early evening. The bus will be leaving Plattsburgh promptly at 1:00pm and will return around 9:30pm. The cost of the tour is $55, which includes the bus and admission to the gardens. Dinner is on your own.
