CCE in Clinton County

Cornell Cooperative Extension Clinton County brings the resources of Cornell University and other land-grant institutions to help meet the needs of Clinton County community members.

Agriculture

Agriculture is strong in Clinton County. Dairy is the predominant ag industry, followed by apples, eggs, livestock, produce, maple syrup and honey.

Cooperative Extension connects farmers with research from Cornell University through farm visits, newsletters, local programs...etc. that bring in experts on particular topics of interest such as herd health, nutrition, farm business management, and calf care.


4-H Youth Development

The 4-H's (head, heart, hands and health) represent four basic human needs - independence, belong, generosity and mastery. Research indicates that young people whose basic needs are met in positive ways are likely to grow into active citizens and contributing member of their families and communities. 4-H helps partner young people with caring adults to meet these needs.

Horticulture

The mission of the Horticulture Program is to motivate and enable the public to manage their homes, yards and gardens more effectively with an emphasis on environmentally friendly practices. We also provide landscapers, groundskeepers and turf managers with the current recommended practices from Cornell University faculty and researchers.

The Master Gardener Program is a key link in helping accomplish this mission. Master Gardeners are volunteers who we train to teach others how to manage their yards and gardens more successfully using fewer pesticides.

Eat Smart New York

Eat Smart New York is a USDA funded nutrition education program sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension and Cornell University. The program strives to assist low-income families and youth acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to change behaviors necessary for nutritionally sound diets and to contribute to their personal development and the improvement of total family diet and nutritional well-being. To accomplish this, paraprofessionals teach basic nutrition. These free lessons provide information and activities regarding healthy, nutritious eating habits, food safety, food resource management, and fitness. We also strive to work in collaboration with other community based social service agencies in providing our nutrition services and knowledge.
